Woman Told She Could Go Blind Because Of Her Weight

Phil joined the free 12 week programme of nutrition advice and exercise as he felt he was much too heavy and was breathless when going up and down stairs. He was desperate to have more stamina to be able to walk and get about more easily. He was also attending Wigan hospital’s sleep apnoea clinic due to difficulties with sleeping at night and the clinic recommended that he joined the Trim Down Shape Up programme.

The 12 sessions taught him to make small changes to his diet and these have had a major impact on his weight. Previously he would skip breakfast and lunch and then eat a huge meal around 6.00pm followed by more food around 9.00pm. His lifestyle coach on Trim Down Shape Up taught him the importance of eating three meals spaced our during the day starting with breakfast and then lunch and thus eating a small and more sensible evening meal. He taught him about portion size and sensible foods to eat. Phil has now started cooking for himself and has made a number of the recipes out of the MANual recipe book that he was given. It even spurred him on to buy the Hairy Biker’s cookery book, the only recipe book he has ever purchased! This healthy eating coupled with the circuit training and sports he undertook at the sessions meant he managed to lose weight and feel much healthier and fitter.

“The breathlessness has now gone and I can run up stairs, walk 4 -6 miles easily and get around much quicker than previously. I would urge other men to do it now! Don’t wait until tomorrow join Trim Down Shape Up and change your life like I have. The great thing about the programme is that it is aimed just at men, there are no ladies to impress and everyone gets on really well together and motivates each other. You also make some great new friends”.

A Leading Cancer Support Charity

We all know that making small changes to our lifestyle can help us to stay healthy, but did you also know it can be loads of fun? Husband and wife Kieran and Shirley Lloyd have been attending Lose Weight Feel Great and have done so well that we thought everyone should know about it!

Shirley (left) had previously attended Slimming world and after leaving the group, Shirley had found the support to be essential. “Around 2 years ago I managed to lose 4st 3lb to get to my target weight but after a while I was confident I could continue without the support of the group and stopped attending. Sure enough, I slowly gained some weight and ended up putting 1st 9lb back on.”

“I attended my local Slimming World once again determined to shed the weight. I was informed of Lose Weight Feel Great and I qualified for the 12 week program. I even managed to bring my partner along with me as he wanted to lose weight. 11 weeks later and I am only 3lb off my target weight, a target weight that is actually 4lb less than last time thanks to the effectiveness of the classes we have been doing before the Slimming World group every week. My partner has also lost over 3st in that time period and we are that pleased with our progress we will still be attending the classes after the 12 week program ends.”

Shirley’s partner Kieran admits to being nervous about attending but decided to join with his wife when it was becoming more difficult to do everyday activities. “If I am being honest, the force that persuaded me to take up ‘Lose Weight Feel Great’ was my partner who had previously signed up, add in I was losing breath walking up the stairs and I was getting pretty sick of none of my clothes lasting before they were too small.”
